Crew cab car hauler. Like manna for eBay.
Oh man. Anyone who spends time on eBay Motors finds something they want, but cannot get. Often, it's a deal that would look bad after you pay a car transporter a grand. Instead of begging friends to join you on a road trip, consider this. Sure, you could get something newer, but would a newer hauler have the style of this? Just be careful until you're used to it - that overhang on the back looks wicked. If you're not careful, you'll tap someone on the off side of a sharp turn.

Low Miles: 1990 Mustang, 1321 Miles
For me, the fun part of these low mileage cars is looking at what's broken. Clearly, if something is falling apart after over a decade-and-a-half of indoor storage, non-use, and being rubbed with carnuba, then it tells you a bit about the way things are built. In this case, you can see the car was well cared for, but read the description, and you'll find many little things that need attention. Look at the photos, and you'll find a little droop in the headliner.

Restored 64 Amphicar
The famous Amphicar incorporated a rather unique design that allowed the car to simply be driven into the water, where an adjustment of the transmission engaged two propellers, converting the little car into a little boat. Being half boat, you can imagine how many were lost to rust, though looking at this fine example, you could never tell.

Low Miles: 1972 Buick estate wagon, 266 Miles
Back in second grade, on the way to a “field trip” to Chuck E. Cheese, I rode in one of these. Even then, the car was showing quite a bit of age. Cars from The General had dashboards that nearly cracked in shipment, it seemed. It's because of that that this is so amazing to me. Well, that, and that I've not had animatronics with my pizza in twenty-four years, give or take.

1947 CJ-2 with pickup cab.
This one took me a while - in fact, I started to think this might be a factory setup. My current working theory is that this has a late 30's or early 40's IHC pickup cab. It's not a Willys cab, because the rear window on a Willys cab is square. That the “Willys” stamping on the plate on the front of the cab matches the other stampings seems to be a result of the metalworker using the bottom of the CJ-2 windshield frame. I'm pretty sure of this, but if you have any other theories, email me.

Rob the jewlery store: Suburban sporting unique grille.
This one is about to end, so rush over if you're inclined.
A few years back, I remember reading an article in which an automotive journalist described how he felt the Chevy/GMC Suburban was tasteful. He went on for a bit, but the gist is that it was because no single part of the truck screamed for attention, and that the whole truck blended together so smoothly.

Rare truck: 1989 Dodge Dakota Convertible

Cool microcar: NSU Prinz
I'm somewhat partial to NSU, perhaps because they're about the only company besides Mazda to put out a production wankel. Today, NSU has long since been bought out by Audi. This particular car looks like it's ready for a restoration.

Hyper-Super-Ultra-Sub-Compact: shrunken Honda
If you own a small car, you know the feeling. You're walking out of a store, when you suddenly realize that your car doesn't appear where you left it. H1 Blizzard: Hummer replica
This isn't the first replica of the Hummer I've seen, and it's not the most accurate, but I do like the cut of its jib. The no-back-window fastback styling makes it look like a Paris-Dakar participant. And unlike replicas like the Hummbug, the Nissan Patrol underpinnings mean it will have at least a little off-pavement cred.

Sea World Monster Truck

The General Lee
I'm 30. For me, and a number of people my age, this is the ultimate vehicle. It is not a desire born of will. I suspect it's embedded deep within our subconscious mind. This particular car was not on the original show. It was built for a TNN reunion show, and is covered with signatures from the cast members.

Mustang Speedstar
Hot rods aren't loved by all. They're respected by many, but often, they're viewed as a something that's a low-tech monument to itself, or at least, the chrome plater's art. Crosley Pickup - gosh durn cute!
Man, it's tiny. I would have loved to see the advertising for this little pickup. All the truck ads I've seen suggest their product is capable of influencing the rotation of the earth. I don't think anyone could make that claim of this little Crosley. Fear not, in this truck, you're not overcompensating for anything, and isn't that just a little macho?

Articulated Monster
The traditional way of making a truck this size is to either build a frame from scratch, or to modfy the existing frame. This monster Ranger takes a different approach. The owner used the chassis from an articulated front loader. That's right: articulated. The bed is spaced from the cab because the truck bends in the middle.

Perhaps the title is a cheap shot. After all, the buyer of this Hummer H6 Player's Edition likely doesn't get sweaty palms when pulling to the pump. They mention the word “limo” in the listing, but I honestly have a hard time picturing people egressing and ingressing this vehicle with the sort of grace afforded by a Maybach.

Pheasant drive-by.
Riiight. We know that there are places where one can go hunting without all of that pesky walking, baiting, and even hiding. I wanna be an eight foot Ranger!
So, you have a pickup, but you want just a little more room in the bed; what do you do? Well, most people buy a trailer or even a larger truck. This stretched Ford Ranger isn't for “most people”. The owner chopped up the box and possibly the chassis to make an 8' bed, resulting in a really, really long Ranger.

The somewhat fast, and the moderately peeved.
So, there were a number of seemingly incredible cars in The Fast and The Furious. This is pretty much the weakest of them. It lost a race. It has an automatic. It's the base model. It has the base engine. This Jetta /// GL is a nice economy car, but that's about it. I have something similar in my driveway, and I can assure you, it's boring.

Dur Neue Thing: VW Iltis
In the US, we got the Thing for 1973 and 1974, and then it was gone. Oh Type 181, we hardly new ye! The rest of the world continued on, as it is wont to do, and various militaries ordered the Iltis from Volkswagen. And now, if you can register a 21-year-old car from Montreal, so can you!
